Electric vehicle charging stations – closer to the road, closer to the driver
January 9, 2026

Through the efforts of the Transport Innovation Association, electric vehicle charging stations will now be allowed to be installed significantly closer to roads. As a result of our work, restrictions have been reduced by narrowing the mandatory road protection zone.
Minimum distances for charging stations will depend on the permitted speed on a specific road. Only an optimal obstacle-free clear zone width will be required. Charging stations may be installed no closer than 4 meters from the edge of the roadway. This change will ensure that electric vehicle charging stations are more visible to drivers and more convenient to access than before.
The order of the Ministry of Transport and Communications will enter into force on January 1, 2026.
