Political support for sustainable transport

Significant Progress for the Transport Sector – The Government has approved the implementation plan for the provisions of the Twentieth Government Programme, which includes actions and commitments of particular importance to our community.

Among the planned changes are goals aimed at creating a more sustainable and innovative transport sector:

✔️ To ensure that fuels from renewable energy sources account for at least 13% of the transport sector’s total energy consumption;
✔️ To increase the share of vehicles powered by alternative fuels to 25%;
✔️ To deploy at least four innovative road safety and data collection and visualisation solutions in cities, on roads, and on railways.

The most important achievement for the sector today is the improved provision on the development of alternative fuels infrastructure:

⚡ 5,000 publicly accessible charging points;
⚡ 3 hydrogen refuelling stations and 10 biomethane refuelling points;
⚡ Development of electricity supply infrastructure required for the transport sector;
⚡ A Government commitment to initiate the creation of a temporary operator compensation mechanism to ensure the maintenance of charging infrastructure.

This is a significant achievement, as compensation schemes or financial commitments are very rarely included in the Government Programme implementation plan. Most importantly, the issue has been officially acknowledged, and responsibility for addressing it has been assigned to three ministries, creating a clear legal basis and a real opportunity to move towards systemic change.
