The CEF-funded eFTI4LIVE project presented in Madrid – a step toward digital freight transport in Europe

📍 Madrid, 30 October 2025 — This week, the eFTI4LIVE consortium officially launched its activities during a two-day kick-off meeting in Madrid, marking an important step toward the digital transformation of freight transport in Europe.

Building on the achievements of its sister projects eFTI4EU and eFTI4ALL, eFTI4LIVE aims to implement the Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) system by 2027. This initiative will enable seamless, secure, and paperless exchange of freight information across the EU — a major step toward smarter, standardized, and more efficient logistics.

Led by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible), the project brings together 19 EU Member States and a wide network of public authorities, IT service providers, and logistics industry leaders — a total of 55 participants, including partners, associated partners, and affiliated entities. Co-funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the project has a budget of €47 million 💶, will run until June 2029, and aligns with core EU priorities: digitalization and sustainability in the transport sector.

Rocío Báguena, representative of the General Secretariat for Land Transport at Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and project coordinator, stated:
“With eFTI4LIVE, we are taking a decisive step toward harmonizing freight data exchange across Europe. This project brings together public and private stakeholders to build the infrastructure, standards, and trust needed to make eFTI a European logistics success story.”

The kick-off meeting in Madrid also provided an opportunity to explore synergies with the eFTI4EU and eFTI4ALL projects, ensuring consistency and knowledge-sharing across initiatives working toward a unified digital freight system.

ℹ️ About eFTI4LIVE
The eFTI4LIVE project aims to expand the implementation of the Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation across EU Member States by closing participation gaps and connecting national ICT systems. It develops and tests interoperable eFTI platforms that enable seamless data exchange across transport modes and borders, while also exploring advanced innovations such as pre-certification of eFTI platforms, digital identity wallets, and real-world multimodal transport pilots. These activities will help authorities and businesses prepare for the implementation of eFTI Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 and its entry into force in 2027.

eFTI4LIVE also contributes to the development of the Single European Digital Enforcement Area (SEDEA), promotes the adoption of digital solutions such as e-CMR, and supports the EU’s vision for interconnected, data-driven, and sustainable mobility 🌍. Building on the foundations of previous projects, eFTI4LIVE paves the way for greater efficiency, transparency, and innovation across Europe’s logistics ecosystem.
