EU4 Digital

  • Project name: EU4Digital – accelerating digital transformation in the Western Balkans
  • Project funding source: GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH)
  • Project duration: April 2025 – October 2029
  • Project objective: to raise awareness and prepare Western Balkan economies (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia) for the roll-out of the electronic Freight Transport Information system (eFTI), accelerating their readiness to transpose the EU’s transport-sector acquis.
  • Additional information about the project: The project laid the groundwork for developing and deploying the eFTI architecture and for disseminating knowledge across the transport and logistics sectors, based on three main pillars: digital infrastructure; e-governance and interoperability; and digital business transformation – with particular focus on the third pillar, namely eFTI implementation in the Western Balkan economies, legal, technical and governance aspects, the development of national eFTI gateways, the digitalisation of transport and customs processes, and electronic data exchange.
  • TIA’s role in the project: in implementing the project, TIA organised knowledge- and capacity-building activities: regional seminars, remote expert sessions, a regional seminar held in Vilnius entitled “Support for the Implementation of the eFTI System in the Western Balkan Countries”, and individual consultations.
  • TIA partners in the project: TIA has signed a bilateral agreement with GIZ.
