Discussions in Brussels: transport sector expectations for the EU multiannual financial framework
April 17, 2026

On March 24, at the European Parliament in Brussels, Martynas Norbutas, Head of the Green Transport Group at the Transport Innovation Association (TIA), participated in a discussion on the EU Multiannual Financial Framework.
European leaders are currently actively shaping the direction of the European Union’s 2028–2034 budget—discussing key priorities and the allocation of investments.
A direct dialogue took place in Brussels with key European Parliament rapporteurs. This provided an opportunity for Members of the European Parliament to ask questions and for the sector to present its expectations.
Our key priorities:
- Accelerate transport electrification by investing in large-scale charging infrastructure, particularly across the TEN-T network and in underinvested regions
- Expand local energy production by promoting the use of biomethane, electricity, and renewable hydrogen in transport
- Ensure the integration of renewable energy into the transport system and its accessibility to end users
- Develop regional energy networks and enable the integration of electric vehicle batteries to support energy supply during emergencies
- Provide financial support to households to ensure a socially fair transition to zero-emission transport
- Accelerate the digitalisation of the transport sector by implementing common standards, data exchange systems, and fully digitalising documents, while ensuring rapid implementation of the eFTI Regulation across all EU Member States
Our position is clear—the EU budget must become a real instrument for change: not just declarations, but concrete measures that reduce dependence on fossil fuels, strengthen energy independence, and build a modern, digital, and resilient transport system.
